| Loving home wanted for 8/9 week old kitten |
[Jun. 14th, 2009|10:09 am] |
We are looking to rehome our kitten, Sophie. She is a gorgeous little kitten who is very loving but loves to play! We are just finding that we are too busy to give her all the attention she needs and deserves and have decided it isn't fair for us to keep her. If you are interested, or know anyone who may be interested in giving Sophie the home she deserve, please get in touch.

I made it to Rotterdam, ears intact. Doctor said perforation was unlikely so I took a shot and glad I did. Pretty nasty show, great sound and great whiskey rider. Good to see Lenny and Yann again..what a comedy tag team. Was glad I got to meet Elliot too and as promised he played an almost entire dubstep filled set, much to the dismay of the speeding tekhnoheads who were onlooking...silly tecknoheads.

So the flight to Rotterdam is in 32 hours and I have an ear infection that has been getting increasingly worse over the last two days, even with the antibiotic spray shit. I have to see the doctor tomorrow to get the thumbs up on whether I can fly or not. I havent even practised my set cos the headphones hurt too much..
Great!! |

Last call for help!
I bought one of these ( Cardbus to expresscrad adaptor ) Tried to install my EMU-1616M software and drivers for soundcard (which worked). However now, whenever the expresscard adaptor and EMU card are slotted into the cardbus...the computer crashes. The longest I have managed without a crash is one minute. An much more patient person than I has put XP on the laptop and taken Vista off as I know that is what the EMU worked with before so there should be no conflict there. Everything works fine, except for when I try to stick in the emu card in adaptor!
Can anyone help? I thought I would ask for a last ditch saviour before I attempt a refund for the adaptor (hmmmm) and start saving for an ultra expensive interface that has a express card fitting instead of PCMCIA card.

Have cardbus slots changed in laptops over the past 5 years?
I have just purchased a new HP laptop and my emu 1616m soundcard won't fit in the slot, its too big for the hole! Taking into account this is a problem I have run into many time over the past 10 years of making womens lives worth something*..but never involving a laptop and soundcard!
I dont know what to do now..one of the reasons for getting a new laptop would be so my sound software would run more efficiently.
*Intentionally sexist and arrogant statement. |

Does anyone know anything about laptops?
I'm moving back to Dewsbury in a couple of days and need to have broadband. However I refuse to pay £130 for a man to drive 3 miles from his home and flip a BT connection switch. So Im gonna get mobile broadband, however my current laptop will not play with dongles and refuses to acknowledge their drivers (tried with 3 seperate types). So Im gonna maybe get a new laptop because mine is ready for it's pipe and slippers and labours far too much to be cool!
Can anyone who knows about laptops advise on a decent one. I can't afford more than £450. It needs to have good RAM for the music software and have wi-fi and bluetooth. |

| At some point you have to do it... |
[Jan. 26th, 2009|12:15 am] |
Okay, I have to do it at some point, so here are some reviews of 'The Sea & the Silence', newest first :
www.amodelofcontrol.com/reviews/
www.side-line.com/reviews_comments.php
www.gothtronic.com/
www.reflectionsofdarkness.com/index.php
..and this is taken from the French digital fanzine www.axesscode.com, translated into English (you'll just have to trust me ;-)
''Although numerous techno industrial projects pushed the genre further than a simple "nodding-head machine" like those stupid dog puppets found on the back of cars, nobody went as far as ESA did. The apparent simplicity of his music hardly defines the power that comes out of it. Anyone lucky enough to have listened to The Sea & The Silence will struggle to put words on his experience apart from a: "it blows me away". We try in vain to understand its mechanisms only to see for ourselves the crushing effects of this electronic substance.
Of course we can dissect the techniques. We realise then that the rhythms linearity gives a wrong impression as they evolve perpetually while staying true to the spirit of the original pattern. The beat escalates and gets more complex without ever losing any substance. I am not even mentioning his "cut science" or mastered use of effects to give life to the beast or his constant atmospheric changes and the incorporation of the singing. From digital hardcore to dark-folk, he brings to some tracks the efficiency of a pop song, which chorus we will hum. He also uses judicious tricks such as sounds inversion, musical instruments swapping their rhythms so that everything changes although nothing does. At every listening, you will try to navigate through the broth of this alchemy and at each time, you will fall over board trying to understand.
And you will be swallowed up by this wild sea, tossed about by the flood tide and the ebb tide of the waves. You will be sucked in, touching the bottom of the seabed, caught in the silence of the depths and then resurface, deafened by the heave crashing against the reef. The Silence will then come to offer you a makeshift raft on which you will catch your breath a bit before the next breaker. Soon you realise that you don't stand a chance against the vast ocean. Soon, worn out, the mermaids singing will captivate you. You will now sink while contemplating the stormy and twinkling surface fade away. And you will let out your last sigh in a ballet of twirling bubbles. You're quite right, I could have said as well that the latest ESA literally "blew me away".

Dear Electronic Substance Abuse,
I am writing to you on behalf of the teachers’ council of our Moscow Musical College after finding link to you at The Noise Music Links Directory.
For more than 15 years we have been providing music training for children from 5 to 14 years of age. Unfortunately, because of the poor economic situation that has prevailed for a long time in Russia, we have received only minimal support from the Moscow government’s federal budget.
I would like to explain that we do not collect any tuition fees from the students at our college, otherwise the majority of parents would not be able to afford their children’s tuition. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly difficult to continue with this very worthwhile enterprise. Furthermore, when it comes to the matter of teaching materials, the situation is little short of catastrophic, particularly with regard to sound materials.
We would be extremely grateful if you could send us any recordings of music on CDs, DVDs or LPs, even if their boxes are damaged.
YOUR HELP IS NECESSARY TO US!
Yours faithfully and hoping for your help,
Nickolay Carmanow, Director.
